Sewer Billing Options - Volume vs. Winter Average

Residential Sewer billing is based upon water usage.  As a general rule, every gallon of water that is used goes down the drain into the sewer.  The City recognizes that some uses of water (example: washing cars or watering your lawn) do not go down the drain and it is not appropriate for sewer to be charged for these uses.  This is why the City of Belton offers two sewer billing options to our residential customers.

Volume Method:

With this method, the amount billed for sewer use is the actual number of water gallons used. The rate for volume method of billing is $1.7026 per 100 gallons of water used for residents inside the city limits.

Winter Average Method:

With this method, the amount billed for sewer use each month is the average of the actual number of gallons used during the winter months of December, January, and February. Customers that select this method are billed the same amount each month for sewer, regardless of how much or how little water is used. The winter average is recalculated annually on May 1st.

The winter average method is typically beneficial for customers that use more water during the summer months than they do during the winter months. For example, they do a lot of outside watering or they fill a swimming pool. The rate for the winter average method of billing is $1.8315 per 100 gallons of water used for residents inside the city limits.
