Infrastructure Matters

Hargis Lake Work

Thanks to voter approval there are active infrastructure projects all around the city. Our public works department is staying very busy overseeing the design and construction of all infrastructure projects that have been made possible by:

  • Proposition S in 2019,
  • Street GO Bonds in 2022 and
  • Water Revenue Bonds in 2022.

Funded by Proposition S (2019)

  • Hargis Lake Stormwater Project
    •  Hargis Lake, in the Hargis Gardens subdivision, is a major storm water project that necessitates the relocation of water and sanitary sewer lines. Kissick Construction, the general contractor, anticipates wrapping up the work in Q1 of 2023.
  • West Cambridge Low Water Crossing Removal
    •  The West Cambridge culverts (between Pawnee and Westover Road) are being replaced with new culverts which will allow for the removal of the low water crossing and improve the stormwater drainage on the south side of Cambridge Road. The project is out for bid and is anticipated to be completed by summer 2022.

Funded by Street GO Bonds (2022)

  • Street Reconstruction Project
    •  The successful Street Reconstruction Project continues with the $21 million in GO bonds approved by voters this past April for street reconstruction, curb replacement and to bring sidewalk ramps into ADA compliance. The latest phase of this project will begin in fall 2022.

Water Line Replacement

  • Allen Avenue and 162nd Street
    • A new PVC water line is replacing an old cast iron water line at Allen Avenue and 162nd Street. This project is funded by a public-private partnership between the City of Belton and NorthPoint Development. Kissick Construction anticipates wrapping up the work in fall 2022.
  • Old Town Belton – Main Street
    •  Select cast iron water lines in Old Town Belton are being replaced and upsized with PVC water lines to accommodate the business growth on Main Street. Breit Construction, the general contractor, anticipates the project to be complete in fall 2022.

Sanitary Sewer Line Repair

Sanitary sewer lines have become exposed along Oil Creek (at two locations) and along West Fork East Creek. Significant streambank stabilization is necessary. Breit Construction is the general contractor for the project and will be reinforcing the stream banks.

Sewer Main Rehabilitation

A Sanitary Sewer Evaluation/Infiltration and Inflow Study found significant stormwater infiltration into our sanitary sewer system. The sewer main rehabilitation project will begin in fall 2022 and will prevent ground water from entering the sanitary sewer system by sealing the sewer lines in West Belton, McKinley Street and between Manor Drive and Redbud Avenue.

Stormwater Management

The city purchased undeveloped land (formally known as Spanish Villas). The property is located next to the Yeokum Center of Innovation off Mill Street. Public works will build a detention pond to alleviate stormwater drainage issues in the area. The project is out for bid and is anticipated to be completed by summer 2022.
