We are eager to continue our successful partnership with NorthPoint Development through the expansion of the Southview Commerce Center (SVCC). SVCC has three, fully leased flex industrial buildings: Progress Rail, A Caterpillar Company, is operational in Building 1; BoxyCharm, A Beauty For All Industries company, will move into Building 2; and, Chewy.com will be operational this summer in Building 3.

“We have seen great success with the first phase of Southview Commerce Center,” said Brent Miles, NorthPoint chief marketing officer, and founding partner. “I knew it was going to be a successful project but what we have accomplished in three short years is above and beyond what we originally anticipated. This expansion, and the public-private partnership, enables us to get this ground into productive use.”

The expansion is a $30 million investment into our community. Building 4 will be constructed on the abandoned, blighted, and long-vacant Century Concrete plant and a neighboring 20-acre parcel. Located north of the existing business park, the 501,000 square-foot building will be identical in design to the existing SVCC buildings.

A workforce development center was included in the plans submitted by NorthPoint Development for Building 4. The workforce development center will provide training opportunities, skill development resources, and help assure a prepared workforce for the business park. The center will coordinate with local educational institutions to best serve our community.

In addition to Building 4, NorthPoint and the City have entered into a partnership to replace 1.25 miles of old, failing cast iron water pipe on Allen Ave. NorthPoint will fund the design and engineering, as well as half of the construction costs for the waterline.

Additionally, there are 7 acres to the east of Building 4 that NorthPoint will not utilize. These 7 acres are now zoned for the development of new single-family lots. NorthPoint plans to bid out the contract for the development of the single-family homes.

“This expansion of the Southview Commerce Center is more good news for the citizens of Belton, especially the cleanup of the former concrete plant which had become a blighted site right at the entrance to our City,” said Alexa Barton, city manager. “It also makes way for another company or companies that will bring new jobs to our city. In addition, the single-family home component adds variety and choice to Belton’s housing stock – a welcome outcome for current and future residents alike.”

The expansion of SVCC includes many elements that will improve our community. The expansion plans will create new jobs for our residents, aid in the replacement of 1.25 miles of old, cast-iron water pipe, the construction of a workforce development center, and the development of new single-family homes.
