1. What inspired you to run for public office?

I didn’t grow up in Belton, but my husband did. When we decided to move to Belton and raise our daughter, I wanted to find a way to be involved that would make Belton feel like my home, too. I didn’t anticipate running for City Council when I did, but I had a neighbor who had served on the Council and encouraged me to run. My inspiration to run for a second term is all the neighbors I’ve met who pay attention, care deeply, rely on our elected officials to do good work and hold us accountable for the decisions made on their behalf.

2. What are your top priorities or goals for the community during your term?

Since joining the City Council in April of 2021, I have championed increased animal control coverage, adding a mental health responder to support Belton PD, thoughtfully investing in long-deferred maintenance of our City infrastructure (for example, streets, water lines, wastewater, stormwater), growing the Chapter 353 program and sidewalk cost share program, promoting our parks and encouraging collaboration between all the different organizations that give back to Belton.

3. What do you love most about our city?

The people in Belton are the best. When someone is down, neighbors show up. The people are friendly and generous. The City is in a great location with proximity to city and rural settings. Belton is equal parts charm and potential.

4. What past experiences or roles have best prepared you for this position?

Customer service & leadership roles have prepared me to serve my neighbors. Right out of college, I was a claims adjuster for a major insurance carrier, working in a call center. I learned so much about listening to understand, explaining complicated scenarios in straightforward ways, de-escalating emotionally charged situations and working for mutually beneficial outcomes. Throughout my life, I’ve felt called to lead because of the confidence that I am capable and I care. I want to see everyone succeed, it is important to do the right things for the right reasons (even when it’s difficult) and when you keep your ego in check, there is much more we can do together than separately. I was the editor of my high school newspaper, I was the captain of my college basketball team, I graduated college with distinction and have always sought additional professional responsibility because I like being involved!

5. How can residents get involved or share their concerns with you?

My contact information is available on the City website. I am no longer on Facebook, so if you need me, please take the time to email or call so I can help address your concerns.
