Water Meter Replacement Project

The City of Belton is preparing to upgrade more than 8,000 residential and commercial water meters from traditional meters to an Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) system. This new technology will make meter reading faster, more accurate and more efficient. This benefits both the City and our water customers.

Meter Site Survey

The meter site survey phase has been completed. The City is now preparing for installation of new water meters.

What to Expect During the Project

  • Advance Notice: You’ll be notified before your meter is scheduled for replacement.
  • Quick Installation: Most replacements take less than 30 minutes, with only a brief water service interruption.
  • No Home Entry Required: All work takes place at the outdoor meter pit.
  • No Rate Change: This project does not change water rates.

Installation work will be performed by City-authorized contractor Second Sight Systems(PDF, 624KB). Crews will be in marked vehicles, carry identification and follow City standards.

What is Advanced Metering Infrastructure?

An AMI system uses a small radio device connected to each water meter. Instead of a meter reader manually checking each home or business, the AMI system securely transmits water-use information directly to the City’s utility system.

Benefits for Residents

  • Accurate Billing: Ensures you are billed for the water you use.
  • Improved Service: Helps identify potential leaks or unusual usage earlier.
  • Better Access to Information: Provides improves access to water-usage data.
  • Convenience: Eliminates the need for manual meter reads.
  • Efficiency: Supports long-term operational efficiency.
