The City of Belton has begun installing new water meters as part of its Water Meter Replacement Project. This important infrastructure initiative will replace more than 8,000 residential and commercial water meters throughout the community.
Water meters, like other infrastructure, have a typical service life and must be replaced over time. The new meters are part of the City's Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) system, which provides more accurate meter readings and modernizes the collection of water usage information.
Installations will occur in phases over the coming months. Residents will receive a knock notification before work begins at their property.
Most installations take less than 30 minutes and are completed outside at the meter pit. Crews do not need to enter homes or businesses to complete the work.
Water service will be briefly interrupted during installation and restored the same day.
Installation crews will be in marked vehicles, carry identification and will not request payment or personal financial information.
Replacing aging water meters helps maintain a reliable and efficient water system while improving the accuracy of water usage readings.
As installation progresses, some customers may notice changes in their water usage over time as new meters provide more precise readings. This project does not change water rates. Additional billing information will be shared as the project continues.
