Important Notice Regarding Inventory Letters
Published on December 23, 2025
The City of Belton is issuing a clarification regarding Water Service Line Inventory letters recently mailed to some residents.
Due to a formatting error during the printing process, a checkbox on some letters was incorrectly marked. The box indicating “confirmed: galvanized requiring replacement” was checked in error. The correct designation for those addresses should read “unknown: possibly lead,” which means the service line material has not been confirmed and additional information is needed to complete the inventory.
This error does not indicate that a galvanized or lead service line has been confirmed at the property, nor does it mean replacement is required at this time. The letters were intended solely to request assistance in verifying service line material, as required by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources.
Residents who received a letter are encouraged to follow the included instructions to complete the self-check and submit the requested information. Residents who did not receive a letter do not need to take any action.
The City apologizes for any confusion this error may have caused and appreciates your understanding as the inventory process continues.
