Call for Artists: Chalk the Walk

Published on June 09, 2025

The Belton Public Arts Commission is thrilled to announce the City’s inaugural Chalk the Walk event happening Sept. 20-21. This event invites community members to come together at Memorial Station to design, draw and create chalk art all through our park.

The Arts Commission invites professional artists with experience in large-scale, outdoor chalk art to showcase their talent in this exciting event! We are seeking a creative individual to design and create a vibrant chalk art piece that will serve as a centerpiece to our community open-air gallery at this event.

What better way to encourage artists of all ages and skills to create chalk art than by having a professional artist working alongside them as part of this event?

Event Details:

  • Location: Memorial Park Belton, Missouri
  • Compensation: The selected artist will receive a $1,500 stipend plus an allowance of $500 for materials.

Who Can Apply:

  • Professional artists with demonstrated experience in chalk art or large-scale outdoor art installations.
  • Individual artists or collaborative teams are welcome.

Submission Requirements:

  1. Portfolio of Previous Work (5-7 images showcasing large-scale or chalk art experience)
  2. Artist Statement (brief bio, artistic background, and description of your creative vision)
  3. Professional References (minimum of two references familiar with your work)
  4. Contact Information (name, email, phone number)

How to Apply:
Submit your materials to Assistant City Manager Mike Ekey at MEkey@Belton.org by Aug 1. Selected artists will be notified by  Aug. 20.

Why Participate?
The Chalk Walk will celebrate creativity, bring the community together, and provide community artists with a unique opportunity to engage one another and share in the creativity of chalk art. We are seeking an experienced artist who can bring an impactful design and professional expertise to make this inaugural event unforgettable.

For questions or additional information, please contact Assistant City Manager Mike Ekey at MEkey@Belton.org or at 816-892-1263.

We can't wait to see your creativity come to life on the sidewalks of Belton!
