Abdelgawad has a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice administration and graduated from the FBI National Academy Session 262. He moved to Belton as a child with his family in 1986 and graduated from Belton High School. He served in the Army National Guard from 1998 to 2004 and is known for his involvement in the communities of both Belton and Raymore.
“It is my experience that individuals with strong ties to a community possess an innate desire to serve with the highest degree of commitment,” Lyons said. “Abdelgawad is an excellent fit for the city’s culture and the police department.”
The deputy police chief will serve as the second in command of the police department and will serve as acting police chief/designee in their absence.
