Residential Trash and Yard Waste

 GFL Environmental provides trash, yard waste and bulky item collection services to Belton residents. The City of Belton does not provide trash service for Crown Communities, Lazy Acres, Oakhill, Peaceful Homes, Plaza Acres, Southfork, Springdale Lake or Tuscany Village neighborhoods.

The monthly residential trash service fee is $22.01 and includes:

  • One 96-gallon trash cart Weekly trash collection
  • Weekly yard waste collection
  • Monthly bulky item collection during the second full week of each month 

Additional 96-gallon trash carts are available for $8 per month. Residents may request or return an additional cart by contacting GFL.

GFL begins collection at 7 a.m. All trash, yard waste and bulky items should be placed at the curb by 7 a.m. on your scheduled collection day. 

Cart Repairs, Replacements and Missed Pickups

GFL is responsible for trash cart maintenance, repairs and replacements, as well as missed collection requests.

GFL Holidays

GFL observes the following holidays:

  • New Year’s Day
  • Independence Day
  • Thanksgiving
  • Christmas

Following a holiday, all trash service will be delayed one day during that week.

Trash Service Information

GFL provides one 96-gallon trash cart to each eligible residence. Each cart is assigned to a specific service address and should remain at that address.

If you need an additional 96-gallon trash cart, the monthly fee is $8 per cart. To request or return an additional cart, contact GFL Customer Service at 816.380.5595 or kccustomercare@gflenv.com.

Residents who are unable to move a 96-gallon cart to the curb due to a qualifying medical condition or temporary injury may be eligible for GFL's hardship/medical exemption program, which may include walk-up collection service or a smaller cart. Eligibility requires completion of a medical certification form by a licensed physician. Contact GFL for more information.

GFL collection begins at 7 a.m. All trash and yard waste must be placed at the curb by 7 a.m. on your scheduled collection day. All trash must fit inside the cart with the lid closed. Do not place items on top of the cart.

Extra bag tags may be purchased for additional trash bags or extra yard waste. A sheet of five tags costs $6.50. To purchase tags, contact the City of Belton Utility Billing at 816.331.4331.

For collection, place carts at the curb with the wheels facing the house. Carts should be located at least two feet from other carts, mailboxes, vehicles, low-hanging branches, shrubs and other obstacles.

Glass Recycling
A glass recycling container is set up in the parking lot of Price Chopper, 109 N Cedar St, Belton MO. All glass colors are accepted.

Kansas City Recycling Information
South Kansas City has a recycling center available at 5200 E Red Bridge Rd, KCMO. The center is open Wednesday - Saturday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. For more information on materials accepted, click here

Yard Waste Information

Residents may have up to 10 biodegradable yard waste bags per week or 10 bundles of limbs per week or any combination thereof, up to 10. Yard waste pick up occurs on the same day as trash pick up. 

GLF begins their route at 7 a.m. each day. All items must be to the curb by 7 a.m. on your assigned day to ensure timely pick up.  Extra bag tags can be purchased at City Hall. A sheet of 5 tags costs $6.50 and can be used for extra trash bags on the ground OR extra yard waste.

All grass clippings and leaves should be in biodegradable brown paper leaf bags. All limbs/ shrub trimmings/ tree timings must be securely bundled in less than 18" in diameter (use twine or string; no tape or plastic). Maximum length is 36" and maximum weight is 60 pounds. Christmas trees should be cut into sections no more than 4 feet in length - no decorations or tinsel.

**Items NOT accepted for yard waste - plastic of any kind including: plastic bags, dirt, rocks, stumps, roots, shrubs with intact root balls, or plastic/clay/ceramic pots

Bulky Item Information

Residents may place one (1) bulky item at the curb each month for pick up. Bulky item pick up is the second full week of each month. Bulky item pick up occurs on the same day as trash pick up but is a separate truck.

GFL begins their route at 7 a.m. each day. All items must be to the curb by 7 a.m. on your assigned day to ensure timely pick up.   

**Items accepted for bulky pick up: chair, couch, dresser, mattress, etc.
