Mayor Qualifications
Qualifications according to the Charter of the City of Belton, Missouri  Article IV

Section 4.1. Qualifications; Election and Term

(a) Qualifications.
  The Mayor shall have been a resident of the city for two years next preceding election and a qualified voter and shall remain a resident and qualified voter of the city.
(b) Election and Term.  At the regular municipal election, the Mayor shall be elected by the qualified voters of the city at large to serve a four-year term as provided by Section 17.2(c), Election of City Officials; Mayor.

City Council Qualifications
Qualifications according to the Charter of the City of Belton, Missouri  Article III.

Section 3.2. Composition; Qualifications; Election and Terms.

(b) Qualifications.
  A City Council member shall have been a resident of the city for two years next preceding election and a qualified voter and shall remain a resident of his or her ward and a qualified voter.  A City Council member shall have been a resident of his or her respective ward for six months next preceding election.
(c) Election and Terms.  City Council members shall be elected to serve staggered three-year terms as provided by Section 17.2(b), Election of City Officials; City Council.  At each regular municipal election, City Council members shall be elected to fill the offices of those whose terms expire.
