The City of Belton is currently proposing the adoption of a Rental Inspection Program for rental units in the city limits. The proposed program may be revised based on community feedback and reviews by the Code Enforcement Advisory Committee, Planning Commission, and City Council. Program updates will be posted on this page as they become available.
City staff held a community meeting to discuss the proposed Rental Inspection Program on Thursday, January 19, 2023 in the Community Room at the Belton Police Department. See the Community Meeting Presentation(PDF, 380KB) for a review of what was presented and discussed. An audio recording of the presentation and discussion is also available on the City's YouTube channel.
Based on the citizen feedback received, staff has made revisions to the proposed Program. Revisions can be reviewed in the memo(PDF, 603KB) provided to the Code Enforcement Advisory Committee for their February 23, 2023 meeting. The Committee unanimously recommended approval of the Program with the following additions: (1) allow voluntary inspections, (2) require a minimum of 1 inspection every 5 years for long-term occupancy, and (3) reduce exceptions for new construction from 5 years to 3 years. These items will be incorporated into the code amendment for review and consideration by the Planning Commission and City Council.
The Planning Commission will hold a public hearing on the Unified Development Code (UDC) Text Amendment to adopt the Rental Inspection Program on Tuesday, March 21, 2023 at 6:00 PM at the City Hall Annex, 520 Main St. The agenda packet with the proposed code language will be posted on the City's "Agendas and Minutes" page the Friday prior to the meeting.
