How do I report a loose, stray, or dangerous animal and its not an emergency?

If you see an animal that is wild, loose, stray, or dangerous you can call animal control at 816-331-5522. The AC officer will be dispatched during office hours to the location where the animal is at. He will then decide if he is able to catch the animal then or if he will need to set up a trap. 

What do I do if I think an animal is injured or being abused? 

If you see an animal that is being abused or that is injured, you can call animal control at 816-331-5522. The AC officer will be dispatched during office hours to the location where the animal is at. He will then decide if he is able to catch the animal then or if he will need to set up a trap. 

What do I need to do if my animal is lost? 

If the Belton Police Department picks up dogs and / or cats, they will first check to see if they are tagged or chipped. If they are the AC and / or Reporting Officer will attempt to contact registered owners. If they are not able to make contact , they will then take the animal to Wayside Waifs. You can call Wayside Waifs at 816-761-8151. 

Does the City of Belton require you to register your dogs? Also, does the city have breed restrictions?

No the City of Belton does NOT have breed restrictions and they do NOT have any city ordinances requiring you to register your dog at this time. 

Is there a Belton City ordinance that requires me to keep my dog on a leash?

Yes according to the Belton City Ordinance, you must keep your pet on a leash unless it is confined on the owners, keepers, or harborer's premises.

Sec. 4-61. - Running at large prohibited.

All dogs and cats must be confined to the premises of the owner, keeper or harborer thereof, except when taken off the premises on a leash, in a car or other conveyance, or in a crate or carrier suitable for shipment.
