Utility Services/Locate Worker

The City of Belton, Public Works Department - Water Services Division is looking for an experienced, high-performing individual for the Utility Worker/Locator position.

Job duties include, but not limited to:


Under general supervision, performs skilled cleaning, repair, inspection, and maintenance work of the City’s water and sewer system and lift and pump stations; operates a variety of equipment in the construction, repair, maintenance, and replacement of City water and wastewater facilities and systems; and maintains and repairs the water and treatment plant facility and fixtures as needed/required.

Correctly, safely, and efficiently locate underground city owned utilities, including fiber optic, electric power, water, sewer systems, storm water. Thoroughly search for underground utilities in a designated area, accurately marking the location, completing the necessary documentation, and photographing each locate.

Work outdoors in the fresh air, using a company-provided tablet to document and close all tickets. We have a 48-hour turnaround time on most locates, which means we generally work the day after holidays and some weekends, as needed.


Education and Experience: High School Diploma/GED required. Six months experience in the operation of water and/or wastewater collections systems or the operation of a variety of construction equipment related to water/wastewater maintenance and construction work is preferred; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Required Licenses or Certifications: Possession of a valid Class B State Commercial Driver License with air brakes is preferred or must be obtained within six months of employment. Other licenses/certifications such as Distribution System Operator III License and/or Class D wastewater certification are preferred or must be obtained within 3 years of employment.

Starting Pay $18.00-$22.00 per hour. DOQ
