POLICY AND PROCEDURES FOR
OCCUPATION LICENSES AND INSPECTIONS

Contractors and Sub-Contractors Information

BEFORE A BUSINESS BEGINS OPERATING, AN OCCUPATION LICENSE IS REQUIRED. A TICKET WILL BE ISSUED FOR OPERATING A BUSINESS WITHOUT A LICENSE.

2. CHECK ON LOCAL ZONING ORDINANCES, REGULATIONS, BUILDING PERMITS AND FIRE CODES.

3. INSPECTIONS:
IT IS THE BUSINESSES RESPONSIBILITY TO CALL AND SET UP INSPECTIONS.

a) Building Inspection, City of Belton, 816.331.4331
b) Fire Inspection, City of Belton, 816.331.7969
c) Health Inspection, Cass County Health Department, if it involves sale or preparation of food, 816.380.8425

AFTER ALL INSPECTIONS ARE COMPLETED AND APPROVED AND ALL THE REQUIRED INFORMATION OBTAINED, PAYMENT CAN BE MADE AT CITY HALL AND THE LICENSE WILL BE ISSUED.

5. THE TERM OF AN OCCUPATION LICENSE IS JULY 1 OF EACH YEAR UNTIL THE 30TH OF JUNE OF THE FOLLOWING YEAR. BUSINESS LICENSES ARE NOT PRORATED.

SIGN PERMIT-Signs are regulated by City Ordinances. A fee is required at the time of application and fees vary depending on the type of sign. Contact Robert Cooper, 331-4331

LIQUOR LICENSE-Applications to sell alcoholic beverages must be approved by the Belton Board of Aldermen. Contact Patti Ledford, 331-4331

STATE OF MISSOURI SALES TAX LICENSE-Retail businesses must provide a copy of their sales tax license before any business license is issued. (816-889-2944)

WORKMAN’S COMPENSATION INSURANCE- Proof of Workers' Compensation insurance, in the form of a Certificate of Insurance, must be provided by all construction industry businesses with one (1) or more employees.

FICTITIOUS NAME REGISTRATION-Any person who regularly transacts business in the state under a name other that his/her own “true name”, must register that business name with the Secretary of State’s Office 573-751-3317, KC Office 816-889-2925.

New business inside the city limits, $120.00
New business outside the city limits, $70.00

All contractors working in the City of Belton require an occupation license before a building permit will be issued.
1. Fill out application form.
2. Current Certificate of insurnace for workment's compensation is required.
3. License fee $70.00 (not pro-rated)
4. Electrical contractors must provide copy of electrical license.
5. License year July 1 to June 30.
